0:20 Side note

You know, I just realized that over the last few months, I forgot to put 0:20 Challenge up on my "meh games" page. Sorry about that. If you go there now, you should see the new entry for download. I'll have it up to play on GameJolt soon.

Level Design

Well, to be honest, I haven't finished all the elements of Enlitened (Enlightened?), but I've decided to go ahead with the level design process anyway. My theory is that I will create new elements as I design levels, and this will give a nice progressive and refreshing feel to the game, as it will add more and more elements as you progress. So far this theory is actually working... even though I've only finished the first 2 levels.

Another fact about this game: Standard levels are about 1600x1600px wide. I may vary things up, though, depending on what I feel like doing. Maybe a 50000px tall falling level. Or a 10000px wide race level. The possibilities are endless!

Anote Updates

Enlitened is progressing well still, although, I'm starting to question the title a little bit. It will probably be longer and more... Titlistic in the end... if that's a word.

Anyway, "what progress have you been making", you may be wondering. Well I'll tell you what; here's the details in list form:

  • New enemy: Floater - Slowly moves toward you if the way is clear. All black expect for his tiny eyes, so watch out for him.

  • New enemy: Guard - On patrol all the time. Get too close and he'll fire

  • New enemy: Genesis Species - Most basic creature. Has no eyes due to environment. Merely walks around, but it completely black. Be careful not to run into him.

  • Jumping addition - Pressing down causes your player to kneel and jump a little bit higher and a regular jump

  • Absolute dark - Periodic blackouts in certain levels where nothing is visible. I hope you took note of your intended path.

Also some littler things, but I don't have time to list them off right now.

Enliten Screenies!

BLAMMO! Here they are. I bet they look a bit confusing, but what do you expect for a game based completely around the dark and stationary lights?

The screens here aren't actual size, I just make them small for my narrow display, and it's just easier to fit everywhere.

This game's getting sweet

Still no screens, but for a new reason. I'm having some trouble with the views. But I'm getting help with it as we speak, so do not fret.

Some neat features for Enlitened now are a lot of small things. The main view in-game is set to follow a small light. This light follows you, but with a delay. This results in very smooth panning.

There is also a "terrain" feature. The nice thing is that the bumpy terrain in-game isn't just aesthetic, your player moves according to it. I hope this will make the game a lot more natural feeling.

This game will be sound-rich. Sounds for jumping, landing, running, dying, lights, finishing, enemies, it's going to be bounteous.

Another neat little feature is about your "Follower Light" which was talked about at the beginning of the second paragraph. It's normally a white light, but if it returns any dangers near by it will turn red. If the danger gets closer (or you do), it begins to fluctuate in size; giving you a broader view of the area around. It's a sort of mercy feature I suppose.

Anywho, that's all for now. Stay tuned!
